CREDANT Technologies Helps Student Realize the Fruits of her Labor and Teach the Value of Mobile Security
Yes, There Are Still Angels in America
CREDANT Technologies steps in at the eleventh hour to see Boston area student realize the fruits of her labor and teach the value of mobile security

Boston high school senior Paloma Stanley, distraught and hours away from missing her graduation on June 14 because she couldn’t afford to pay $700 for a school laptop she lost a month ago, was saved by a gift from an unexpected source. CREDANT® Technologies, a software company that specializes in protecting information stored on notebook computers and handheld devices, offered to pay the bill just in time to allow Stanley to walk across the stage at Hancock Hall with the rest of her graduating class.

“Fifteen hundred notebook computers are lost or stolen every day in the U.S. and this time one of them was a young student. We focus on protecting data stored on these computers to protect organizations from the threat of brand damage, legal liability, and major regulatory violations,” said CREDANT Technologies President and CEO Bob Heard. “When we heard about Paloma’s loss, we immediately related to the severity of her consequence. We felt that this would be a great opportunity to help a deserving young woman while educating an entire group of students about protecting notebook computers.”

Stanley, 18, borrowed one of 30 laptops Boston Community Leadership Academy in Brighton makes available to students to finish a term paper she thought would be the last barrier to her graduation. She last saw it about a month ago when she forgot the laptop in a hurry to catch a bus home to Dorchester.

Driven by school policy, principal, Nicole Bahnam, had no choice but to prevent Stanley from graduating unless she could pay a $300 down payment on the $700 computer before the June 14 graduation. Stanley lives on her own and works 20 hours a week at a local movie theatre. She already had been accepted to college but would not have been able to attend until the debt was paid because the school holds all transcripts and will not issue a diploma.

“We can’t thank CREDANT enough,” said Boston Community Leadership Academy Principal Nicole Bahnam. “I’ve watched Paloma work for the last five years to really turn her life around. This is so wonderful.”
