CREDANT Technologies Teams with Sprite Software to Offer Industry's First Secure

DALLAS, Texas – December 29, 2003 – CREDANT Technologies, a premiere provider of mobile security and management software, today announced an alliance with Sprite Software Limited to resell Sprite Back-Up, Sprite Back-Up Premium Edition and Sprite Clone as strategic components of CREDANT Mobile Guardian. The integration of CREDANT Mobile Guardian’s robust encryption and authentication with Sprite’s imaging, automated back-up and recovery processes, provides the industry’s first solution that supports “in-the-field” secure recovery of applications and data for mobile employees. The CREDANT Mobile Guardian Sprite components are for organizations that need to cost-effectively; 1) deploy pre-configured Pocket PC devices to a mobile workforce; and, 2) provide a back-up of the applications, security and data on an external storage card to ensure immediate “in-the-field” authenticated recovery in the event of a device failure.

A field technician on location or a salesman on a customer call requires data at his/her fingertips to be effective and usually relies solely on a handheld device to deliver the most up-to-date information. When the device fails they are often asked to return it to IT and, as a result, productivity comes to a screeching halt costing valuable time and dollars. A failure is frequently due to the loss of battery power which causes all applications and data to be destroyed. By enabling the mobile employee to immediately recover applications and data from an automated back-up that is securely stored on an external storage card, the problem is easily and quickly resolved. To minimize the risk of an unauthorized person restoring the device, CREDANT Mobile Guardian automatically enforces user authentication before the recovery process begins — creating a trusted environment for “in-the-field” recovery.

“Loss of battery power is the number one reason why handheld devices reset back to factory defaults deleting all applications, data and security contained on them,” stated Sean Connolly, managing Director, Sprite Software Limited. “Sprite addressed the problem from a systems management perspective and CREDANT addressed it from a security perspective — the combination results in a solution that is unsurpassed in the industry.”

The new CREDANT Mobile Guardian offering fills a gap in handheld computing by creating a trusted environment that supports “in-the-field” back-up and recovery of applications and data to minimize data loss while maximizing employee productivity. In the event of a device failure, field employees no longer require a connection to network resources or personal involvement by IT to recover applications, security and data. The addition of Sprite’s imaging capability reduces the many hours it takes for organizations to install applications, configure settings and create secured back-ups to external storage cards when deploying Pocket PC devices to thousands of mobile employees.

“Maintaining a balance between deployment, back-up, recovery and security becomes much more difficult in mobile environments where users are remote and may not always have access to network resources or help desk support,” said Bob Heard, president and CEO, CREDANT Technologies. “Adding this mobile systems management functionality to the CREDANT Mobile Guardian platform addresses critical gaps in mobile computing and marks another milestone in our overall strategy to deliver the most comprehensive solution for the mobile and wireless ecosystem.”
