When a portable storage device is inserted into a CMG-protected desktop, laptop, smartphone or PDA for the first time, CMG detects the device and requires the user to set a password for future access to it. CMG automatically provisions the CMG EMS client, secures the encryption keys and sends policies to the device.
From this point forward the device is password protected and all data added to it is automatically scanned and encrypted per policy. Administrative policies can require that all data be encrypted or even allow encrypted and non-encrypted data to coexist—a critical option given the increasing number of devices containing both business and personal data, such as audio and video.
