Data Security Software that Goes Beyond the Network
Today's corporate environments are more dynamic and mobile than ever before. That means users need fast, flexible data access from a variety of remote locations—airports, coffee shops, restaurants and home offices – while using a variety of devices such as laptops, PDAs, smartphones, external storage devices and CD/DVD media. When sensitive corporate data is on the move, data encryption and data security protocols have to move with it.
With CREDANT Mobile Guardian (CMG) External Media Shield (EMS), users can access and update external media from any computer, without compromising data protection. Working with the CMG family of data security solutions, CMG EMS provides unique policy-based data encryption, centralized administration and reporting for endpoint data protection, both within the network and beyond.
Enforceable Data Encryption and Local Access Control
When a portable storage device connects to a CMG-protected desktop, laptop, smartphone or PDA for the first time, CMG detects the device and prompts the user to set a password for future access to it. Administrators can centrally define and enforce password strength via security policies. Once the password is set, CMG automatically provisions the client with the CMG External Media Shield, providing secured data encryption keys and policies to the device.
From this point forward, the device is password protected and all data added to it is automatically scanned and encrypted per policy. Administrative policies can require that all data be encrypted. Policies can also allow encrypted and non-encrypted data to coexist—a critical option because of the increasing number of devices containing both business and personal data.
Enhanced reporting with CMG Shield for External Media and CREDANT Compliance Reporter provide visibility into new data access events across all Windows-based external media. Media devices are uniquely identified and reporting information includes whether media was Shielded or not; authentication success or failure; and recovery information. Each event also shows contextual information such as originating host, originating user, date/time, event security, device description and device capacity. All CMG Shield for External Media events are available in the CREDANT Compliance Reporter.
